1 Question To Ask Your Team

///1 Question To Ask Your Team

Because you and your team are working to make a positive difference…I’m going to ask you to celebrate your success.

And to celebrate those successes often.

Celebrating success not only helps strengthen the ways your team works together, but it also helps keep everyone inspired.

Yet, many teams I work with are so busy that they forget to celebrate the work they do together.

To help support these celebrations, please feel free to use this question from my It’s Up To Us cards set.

If you want to inspire and bring out the best in your team so they can inspire and bring out the best in each other, I believe this question is for you.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Display the question.
  2. Ask everyone to write their individual answer in “we” statements.  Give them 2-3 minutes to write as much as they can.
  3. Invite everyone to form teams of 4 or 5 people.
  4. Provide 3 minutes for each person to share his or her answer to the small group.
  5. Once completed, invite a few people to share out loud his or her answer to the entire group.
  6. With a new partner, provide everyone time to discuss what the conversations made them think about.
  7. Have individuals share their answers.

I’m cheering you and your team on!

We celebrate individuals by filling their buckets with positive feedback and acknowledging when they have done something amazing to contribute to the team as a whole. We document and write our team successes on a visual board so we are constantly reminded of the amazing things we do together.

Hi Amanda, Thank you for sharing the amazing things you and your team are doing to celebrate together. I bet a lot of people are going to benefit from reading what your team is doing to celebrate on an ongoing basis! It gave me some great ideas as well. Thank you!

I would like to celebrate my bonding with Chrissy from Maths. We are both very fortunate to work together at a school that provides rich, meaningful, varied and plentiful opportunties for Professional Learning. Being the most ‘extreme’ left brain and right brain learners during our ‘4Mat’ training gave us our first opportunity, as opposites, to attract and connect. Chrissy and I joke that together we are the perfect learner! We were then ‘roomies’ at AVID ‘camp’ for Summer Institute last year, which cemented our personal and professional friendship. We are now Unleashing Learning together and we HAD intended to get together outside school hours to work on this module. Sadly, the reality of ‘life’ gets in the way of best intentions. However, we are working together in spirit and look forward to our next team celebration. Thank you, William, for making this experience worthwhile.

Thanks Nerida for such a wonderful response. It’s a reminder that our “team” can be anyone we might work with who continue to bring out the best in who are. Sounds like you and Chrissy are a great team for sure!
